A day at the MOMA....

One of the best perks associated with living in New York City is the opportunity to visit any number of world class art museums on a whim! Yesterday I spent a lovely day at the Museum of Modern Art and found new inspiration for my own work....

l was especially thrilled at discovering a couple of paintings by the Modernist painter Florine Stettheimer, whose paintings depict stylized, diary like accounts of her life as a member of upper-class New York society between the wars. Her decorative, figurative, feminine style (including lots of flowers and fashionable figures) caused my heart to leap out of chest!

This oil painting entitled "Family Portrait II" is one of my faves from her collection. Her collage-like depiction of flowers, lovely ladies, handwritten notes and subtle images of the Chrysler building and the Statue of Liberty tell a story...much like the Fashion Stories that are a central theme to my own body of work!

I also rediscovered van Gogh's portraits (this one is Portrait of the Postman Joseph Roulin) whose floral surface designs, hand lettering and bold colors spoke to my heart....

I couldn't wait to get back to my studio and play!

Someday I hope to have the time to work on some larger pieces like the beauties hanging in the MOMA! But for now it is my joy to create custom illustrations for your fashionable life.....What can I paint for you today?
